SCLATER William

He came to Gnowangerup in the 1920’s and as his family had two nurseries in Devon. He was an avid gardener.
He set up a vege garden Gnowangerup townsite near the creek in the area near Denny Street.
He grew vegetables, and delivered to townsfolk with his horse & cart.
Earlier William had also set up the garden at Telyarup and worked for some time there.
In later years he lived at Glenalmond’, the farm owned by his daughter Lillian and son in law Tommy Stewart.
William would spend most of his earnings at the Gnowangerup hotel.
This was a regular event, according to his grandson Donald Stewart that after a “session” he would clamber into the cart and lie down, his horse would make the 14 km trek home!
